Peter Lindroos, tenor

The Honorary Member of our society, Peter Lindroos, died tragically 17.11.2003.

He was Finland's most internationally successful tenor. He studied with four Italian teachers: Jolanda di Maria Petris, Licinio Francardi, Luigi Ricci and Marcello Del Monaco (brother of the Great Mario). Ricci and Francardi are closely connected with the art of Beniamino Gigli, Ricci was Benimino's pianist ja Francardi was his close friend who was also advised by Beniamino. The world career of Peter Lindroos began in Gothenbug 1969-71 (among others the main role of Othello). The Royal Opera House in Copenhagen can be named as Lindroos's own theater. He has sang there since 1971.

He has often sang at Covent Garden in London, at State Operas of Vienna, Hamburg and Bavaria and also in many important opera houses in Germany (Stuttgart, Köln, Berlin). In almost every summer he has performed main roles in Savonlinna. He has also been in famous Teatro Colòn in Buenos Aires, in Montreal, Canary Islands etc. In Italy he has sang in Parma (Teatro Regio), in Naples (San Carlo), in Ravello, in Academy of Santa Cecilia (Rome) and in Teatro alla Scala in Milan in Strauss's opera Daphne. His roles span all important parts of lirico spinto, some of which are Rodolfo, Cavaradossi, Radàmes, Werther, Des Grieux, Othello, Manrico, Don Josè. Peter Lindroos was awarded by the Gigli-price of our society in 1994 and subsequently he performed in Commemorative Concert of Beniamino Gigli in Recanati 18.3.1995.
