Born in Palermo (1952), he studied in Sicily and at La Scala, Milan. He has won various national and international competitions and has sung in the principal Italian theatres (La Scala, the San Carlo Theatre in Naples, the Rome Opera, the Teatro Comunale in Florence, the Petruzzelli Theatre in Bari, the Massimo Theatre in Palermo). He has also performed in Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, Budapest, Helsinki and Frankfurt.

He took part in a hugely succesful performance at the New York Met with Luciano Pavarotti, who has also directed him in La Favorita a Teatro La Fenice in Venice. He has worked with such directors as Ronconi, Olmi, Lavia Zeffirelli, Maestrini, Micheli, Wallmann, Montresor, Crivelli, Del Monaco, Menegatti, and conductors such as Muti, Gavazzeni, Chailly, Prètre, Mehta, Pidó, Abbado, Guadagno, Franci and Sinopoli.

He has won numerous prizes including the Cilea d'Oro, the Giacomo Lauri-Volpi prize, the Beniamino Gigli prize of the Finnish Beniamino Gigli Society in 1996 and in the same year the prize of Beniamino Gigli Society of Recanati. In 1997 he got the Gigli prize of Bagnara di Romagna by the side of young singers and Don Francesco Bonello.

His repertoire includes La Bohéme, La Sonnambula, Rigoletto, Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor, Faust, L'amico Fritz, Falstaff, Maria Stuarda, L'elisir d'amore, Werther, Roberto Devereux, La Rondine.

He sang in July 9th 1998 in the concert organized by the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland and made his debut as Riccardo in Ballo in Maschera of Verdi at the Theatre Rendano of Cosenza.

He has made many recordings, including Passioni, Amico Fritz.
